RHEL8 in Virtual Box :)

We are going to install and run RHEL 8 on oracle virtual box.

First we need a virtualbox. So go ahead and download it .I am using ubuntu 20.0 as my base os and on top of it I will be running rhel 8(RedHat Enterprise Linux). To download the virtual box go ahead and click the link below :-

Now after you downloaded the virtualbox go ahead and open it I already have the setup and things are done are for me but let’s setup another for you guys so follow along :-

This is my setup but I will add another one

First things first to run any os on v-box (Virtual box) you need an iso file of the os so search the internet , rambo it and download the iso file for your favourite os. For me I am going to go with RHEL 8 . You can freely download it.

Now let’s do our things and stup up the process :-

Click on the “NEW” button and give the name for your os in my case I have given the following details. After filling with the name for your os and type and version click on the “ NEXT ” button.

Next window screen is for providing the RAM memory to your os . So it basically depends on your system. So on the minimal side is the above.

The next window is for Hard disk and go with the flow. Click on create and move on .

Next window is for the type of the hard disk file. So I have choosen VDI and click on the next .

Next window is for the storage. So here it is asking if you want your storage to be fixed or dynamically allocated . I had chose dynamic and click on next.

Next is file location and size . So basically if you don’t have a specific folder where you want all these file I would not like to change the default for these settings and after giving the size for hard disk click on “Create”.

After you click on create you will get this type of image in your v-box screen.

Now, if you have reached here ,the main job starts to configure it. Let’s do this also.

Now while selected os click on the settings on top-right panel and you will get this type of window.

Here you have the settings menu for the os and we need to do necessay things here. Now if you go to the advanced setting for the general setting you can change the share option to biderctional (not so important).

The main thing to focus on these setting is boot order and networking. So go to the System and follow this boot order :-

And after this you can change the number of processor for it :- I keep it 1 or 2 not more than that :)

Now for the most important thing is storage . When you goto to the storage part you will get this window. One is IDE and other is SATA . We have to configure IDE and not sata.

Click on “EMPTY” and then click on the cd icon you see on top right side

When you click on the cd icon then you can navigate to the iso file you have downloaded for the vbox. Choose that and click ok.

Now move to networking part. In Networking configuartion by default NAT is set change it to BridgeNetwork and your settings has been done and click ok to save and close this window.

Your settings have been saved that’s all for the setting up and now we are going to boot up the os.

So after this we will just do the installation and follow along with me.

Only click on root password for root password creation as we donot need any user right now so don’t create user at this point of time.

Wait for the installation to finish. Once finish click on reboot

Now one thing to remember is that maybe after you click on reboot the installation may start from the beginning. This is where the role of boot order comes in play.
